Moody Jewel Tones & Dramatic Velvet Drapery at The Sentinel - Jack and JoAnna
December | Rich plum velvet, dark florals, and warm candlelight brought a moody winter atmosphere to downtown Portland. The day began with a classic church ceremony at St. Mary’s Cathedral before moving to the Renaissance Room at The Sentinel for an intimate evening reception.

This winter celebration paired traditional architecture at St. Mary’s Cathedral with a moody, sophisticated reception inside the Renaissance Room at The Sentinel. A rich color scheme centered on dark purple, plum, and deep jewel tones established a distinct, welcoming atmosphere across both venues. Glowing candlelight, dramatic velvet drapes, and high-energy details created an inviting setting for an indoor December gathering.
The ceremony took place inside St. Mary’s Cathedral, where tall brass urns filled with deep burgundy dahlias, mauve roses, and winter branches flanked the sanctuary steps. The wedding party wore deep purple lace and chiffon dresses paired with dark floral bouquets tied in black ribbon.
At The Sentinel, guests picked up antique key seating favors hanging from a chalkboard display with purple velvet ribbons before entering the reception. The focal point of the Renaissance Room was a full wall installation of draped plum velvet fabric behind the head table, bathed in soft purple uplighting. Long banquet tables were set with dark charger plates, black taper candles, and warm votives, creating a candlelit setting for dinner and drinks.
Selecting the Premiere Package with Your Perfect Bridesmaid allowed our team to lead design collaboration from early planning through day-of setup. We managed the multi-venue timeline between St. Mary’s Cathedral and The Sentinel, supervised vendor arrivals, and oversaw the installation of the velvet backdrop. In addition, YPB assisted in bringing the couple's design vision to life by creating design boards tailored to their wants and needs. Handling all behind-the-scenes logistics gave the couple full peace of mind to enjoy their celebration.
Bringing this moody jewel-toned design to life showcased how rich color choices and candlelight transform an indoor winter venue. Watching guests gather in the candlelit Renaissance Room made the evening memorable for our entire team. It was an honor for Your Perfect Bridesmaid to be a part of this beautiful event.
