- How to choose a hair and makeup artist for your wedding day: a planner's guide.
Your wedding day is one of the most memorable and most photographed days of your life. Choosing the right hair and makeup artist is key. Choosing the right hair and makeup artist is key to feeling and looking your absolute best. With so many talented professionals out there, finding the perfect fit can be a daunting task. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process and make the best decision for you. 1. Start Your Hair and Makeup Artist Search Early Hair and makeup artists who specialize in weddings often book up months, if not a year, in advance. Once you have your wedding date and venue secured, start reaching out to potential artists. 2. Know Your Style Think about the look you envision for your wedding day. Are you dreaming of soft, romantic curls and a natural makeup look? Or do you want a bold, glamorous look? Research styles that match your personality and dress, and create a mood board or Pinterest collection to share with potential artists. Once you have an idea of what look you are going for, compare your ideal look with the portfolios of the artists you are considering. 3. Schedule a Trial A trial session is a must. This is your opportunity to ensure the artist’s ability to bring your vision to life and ensure you feel comfortable with their techniques and products. Use the trial to: Discuss your preferences and share your inspiration images. Communicate any skin or hair concerns, such as allergies or sensitivities. Assess how the hair and makeup hold up throughout the day. 4. Pay Attention to Products and Hygiene Professional artists should use high-quality, long-lasting, and camera-friendly products. Additionally, hygiene is crucial—brushes and tools should be sanitized between clients. 5. Ask the Right Questions When interviewing potential artists, consider asking: Are you available on my wedding date? Do you have experience with weddings similar to mine (e.g., outdoor, cultural, etc.)? What is included in your pricing (e.g., travel, touch-ups, bridesmaids)? How long will hair and makeup take on the wedding day? Do you have a large enough team to accommodate the number of services I need without needing us to start super early. Do you have a backup plan in case of emergencies? 6. Trust Your Gut Your hair and makeup artist will be with you during some of the most intimate moments of your day. Choose someone who makes you feel comfortable, listens to your needs, and exudes professionalism. Final Thoughts Hiring the right hair and makeup artist can make a significant difference in your wedding experience. By taking the time to research, plan, and communicate your needs, you’ll not only look stunning but also feel calm and confident as you walk down the aisle. - Sustainable Wedding Planning: 9 ways to make your wedding eco-friendly
Sustainability has become a priority for many couples in recent years. Here's some ways you can prioritize the environment while wedding planning. | Photos By Jenn Tai & Co | As wedding planners, we've had the privilege of helping clients incorporate eco-friendly practices into their big day without compromising style or budget. If you're trying to make your celebration kinder to the planet, here are some ideas. | Photo By Steady State Studios | 1. Choose ethical rings Your wedding rings symbolize eternal love, so why not ensure they reflect your values too? Consider these tips for choosing ethical wedding rings: Conflict-Free Diamonds: Choose diamonds that are certified conflict-free, ensuring they were mined responsibly without funding unethical practices. Lab-Grown Gems : Opt for lab-grown diamonds or gemstones, which have the same brilliance as mined stones but with a significantly lower environmental and ethical impact. Recycled Metals: Look for jewelers that use recycled gold, silver, or platinum to reduce the demand for mining and its associated environmental costs. Vintage Rings: Explore antique or vintage rings, which carry unique charm and history while being an eco-conscious choice. Ethical Jewelers: Research jewelers committed to sustainability and fair labor practices. Many independent artisans create stunning, ethical designs. | Photo By Katy Weaver | 2. Choose a Green, Sustainable Wedding Venue When selecting a venue, look for those that prioritize sustainability. Venues with green certifications, renewable energy use, or waste reduction programs are great options. When you are doing your venue tours, ask venue's if they have converted to LED lighting options, or if they have recycling or composting resources for vendors to use. 3. Go Digital Utilizing online resources like wedding websites to help convey information and gather RSVP's eliminate a lot of paper waste not to mention costs. 4. Opt for Seasonal and Local Flowers Imported flowers often come with a significant carbon footprint. Choose seasonal and locally sourced blooms to reduce transportation emissions. Better yet, consider potted plants or herbs that guests can take home as favors. 5. Rent, Don’t Buy From decor to attire, renting can significantly reduce waste. Encourage the wedding party to rent their outfits, and opt for rented décor elements like table settings, linens, and furniture. | Photo By Jenn Tai & Co | 6. Select Sustainable Catering Food waste is a major issue at weddings. Work with caterers who source ingredients locally, offer plant-based menu options, and have a plan for donating leftovers. Composting scraps can further reduce your wedding’s environmental impact. Opting for Family Style service or Plated meals will also go a long way to avoid food waste. 7. Say Yes to Secondhand Vintage wedding dresses and suits are not only charming but also environmentally friendly. Explore local thrift stores, online marketplaces, or boutiques specializing in pre-loved bridal wear. 8. Use Sustainable Decor Avoid single-use items and unnecessary plastic. Renting decorations or using items you already own adds a personal touch while reducing waste. | Photo By Pretty Geeky | 9. Think About Transportation Encouraging carpooling, offering shuttle services, or choosing a central location will minimize travel emissions. Hosting the ceremony and reception at the same venue is another easy way to reduce carbon emissions. Final Thoughts A sustainable wedding is not just a trend—it’s a meaningful way to start your married life with intention and care for the planet. By incorporating these tips, you can create a celebration that aligns with your values while inspiring your guests to adopt eco-friendly habits. Sustainability doesn’t mean compromising on your dream day—it’s about finding beauty in mindful choices. Love what you see? We would love to help you plan your unique wedding vision. - Your Ultimate Wedding Dress Shopping Guide
| Photo By Amare Images | It's time to find your wedding dress - you're excited, but nervous. Where to start? What's an A-line, anyway? As wedding planners, we have had the privilege of helping many brides navigate the exciting but sometimes overwhelming process of dress shopping. Here’s a comprehensive guide to ensure you enjoy every moment of this special time. When to Start Shopping for Your Wedding Dress Timing is everything when it comes to wedding dress shopping. Ideally, you should begin the process 9 to 12 months before your wedding date. This timeline allows plenty of time to: Browse and try on dresses: Exploring different styles, designers, and trends. I recommend visiting 3-4 dress shops to get a sense of the variety that exists. Place your order: Wedding dresses are often made-to-order and can take 6 to 8 months to arrive. Schedule alterations: Most dresses need at least 2 to 3 fittings to achieve the perfect fit. These typically begin 2 to 3 months before your wedding. We also wanted to pass on a few of our favorite bridal gown stores: Seattle Wedding Dress Shops Grace Loves Lace Bellevue Bridal I Do Bridal Portland Wedding Dress Shops Ania's Anna's Charlotte's Phoenix Wedding Dress Shops LuvBridal Destiny's Bride If your wedding date is closer and you don’t have 9 months to spare, don’t worry! Many bridal shops offer rush orders or have off-the-rack options for brides on a tighter timeline. Shops like Anthropologie are a great option. | Photos By RTFaith Photography | Tips for a Stress-Free Shopping Experience Shopping for your wedding dress is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it’s worth taking steps to make it as enjoyable as possible. Here are my top tips: Set a Budget Be realistic about how much you can spend. Remember to include additional costs like alterations, accessories, and shoes into your overall wedding dress budget. In 2024 we saw our brides spending on $2500 on average for their wedding dress and $750 on average for alterations and accessories. Do Your Research Before your appointments, gather inspiration from Pinterest, bridal magazines, and Instagram. Save photos of dresses you love to share with your consultant. Choose the Right Shopping Crew Bring 2 to 3 trusted individuals whose opinions you value. Too many voices can make the process confusing. Be Open-Minded While it’s great to have an idea of what you like, don’t be afraid to try on different styles. Many brides are surprised by how much they love a silhouette they hadn’t considered. Trust your sales associate, and don't hesitate to give their suggestions a whirl. Book Appointments Early Popular bridal salons can book up quickly, especially on weekends. Schedule your appointments well in advance. Wear Proper Undergarments Bring a strapless bra and nude undergarments to your fittings. These will help you get a better sense of how the dress will look on your wedding day. Don't forget to spend a little extra time on your hair and make up that day to help you envision the total look. How to Save Money on Your Wedding Dress While as you can see, Wedding dresses are an investment, there are plenty of ways to save without sacrificing style or quality: Shop Sample Sales Many bridal shops sell their floor samples at a discount to make room for new inventory. You can score a designer gown for a fraction of the price. Consider Pre-Owned Dresses There are many shops that offer gently used designer gowns at significant discounts. As a bonus, many of these shops support a great cause. Some to look into: Portland: Brides for a Cause Seattle: Blue Sky Bridal Phoenix Don't Box It Bridal Opt for a Simple Design Dresses with fewer embellishments are often more affordable. You can add accessories to elevate the look. Time Your Purchase Many bridal salons offer discounts during trunk shows or end-of-season sales. Keep an eye out for these events. Top Wedding Dress Trends for 2025 If you’re a bride who loves staying on top of trends, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of stunning and unique bridal fashion. Here are some of the top trends to inspire your shopping: Bold Sleeves Statement sleeves, from puffed to detachable options, are making waves. These add drama and a modern touch to classic silhouettes. High Slits Dresses with thigh-high slits offer a daring and glamorous look. Perfect for brides who want to make a bold statement. Colorful Hues While white will always be a classic, many 2025 brides are opting for pastel shades like blush, lavender, and champagne for a unique twist. Square Necklines A timeless and flattering choice, square necklines are making a comeback for their elegant and modern appeal. Eco-Friendly Fabrics Sustainability is becoming a priority, with many designers using organic or recycled fabrics to create beautiful, earth-conscious gowns. Minimalist Chic Simple, clean lines and unadorned fabrics are perfect for brides seeking an elegant, understated look. Corset Bodices Inspired by vintage fashion, corset-style bodices add structure and a touch of romance to bridal gowns. Detachable Elements Versatility is key, with detachable overskirts, capes, and trains allowing brides to transform their look throughout the day. Final Thoughts Finding the perfect wedding dress is one of the most memorable parts of planning your big day. By starting early, staying organized, and keeping an open mind, you’ll enjoy the process and find a gown that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and ready to say “I do.” Remember, this journey is about celebrating your unique style and love story. - Abbey Road Farm - Michelle and Cameron
May 2022 | Classic, wine country wedding for two Nike employees | Photo By Lindsay Blair Photography | Michelle and Cameron's love story started at Nike, and throughout this gallery, you'll see little nodes to their beginning: matching Nike's for the groomsmen, mini Nike shoe cake toppers (no, it wasn't a baby announcement!), etc. They both loved the beauty of the venue, so they kept it classic and on the minimalistic side. They opted for a head table and a centered dance floor, so that way everyone could be a part of the party whether they were sitting or standing. And we LOVED the personal touches the added. Michelle and Cameron spent the last month or so crafting 1000 paper cranes: a Japanese tradition that symbolizes honor, good fortune, loyalty, and longevity. Their place cards doubled as favors: lottery tickets! Such a pleasure to be along for the ride with these two! See The Vendor Team who made this day a reality at the end of the gallery.
