  • Non-traditional wedding inspiration from a Portland Wedding at Blockhouse - Hope and Andre

August | When two artists get married, you know it's going to be beautiful and unique! Featuring unique, funky florals, art installations and live tattoos during their ceremony. | Photo By Max Benedict | Hope and Andre eloped a month prior before they came to us wanted to make it official and celebrate with their friends and family. Since they already celebrated together, the priority was to make the day as free flowing and comfortable as possible, which meant ditching some of the common wedding traditions This wedding was far from your traditional wedding template. Here's 6 ways they made it their own: 6 Non-traditional Wedding Ideas from a Portland Wedding 1). Spend the morning together Hope and Andre spent the morning together in their Portland home to keep each other calm and be fully present during the day. This also allowed them time to start on their matching tattoos (!!) to finish later during their ceremony, as Andre himself is a tattoo artist. 2). Skip the bridal bouquet Instead of a traditional bouquet, Hope adorned her hair with whimsical florals. This allowed her hand to be free and not have to worry about passing it onto someone, but still made a stunning accessory. 3). Implement a fun dress code Hope and Andre wanted to do their dress code differently - instead of wearing white themselves, they asked their guests to wear white, tan or champagne. And they really understood the assignment! Hope and Andre got to stand out in color, and their family photos and photos with friends all looked so good. 4). Ditch the guest book and classic welcome table Instead of your basic table with a linen, card box and guest book, these two artist chose to create a welcome table that reflected their style. They supplied their favorite glass art pieces, cheeky photos, and other decor from their house. And instead of a guest book, they sourced a new art piece together and had their guests sign the back. That way they had something to hang in their home for years to come with a little secret reminder of all their friends and family's support. 5). Walk down the aisle together Not everyone walks with their mom or dad down the aisle, and no one says you have to. Hope and Andre not only ditched the wedding party, but hey also ditched having a processional with friends and family and instead walked arm in arm, hands over their hearts, to their ceremony together. 6). Incorporate your guests into your ceremony During their ceremony while they were giving each other tattoos (which was SO cool and badass), a few musically talented guests played and sang a song that was easy for guest to sing along to after a chorus or two. This not only helped fill the time it took for their to finish their tattoos, but it also made their guests feel a part of the ceremony instead of just observing it. This wedding was also just flat out beautiful, with funky florals and personal decor like the rugs from their home that made up the aisle and their handmade art installation. • The Orchard - Jamie and Michael

Jamie and Michael - May 2020 Video by Watertown Films // Photography by Here Today Photo There's nothing like running up and down the aisles of The Orchard with your new spouse. It was rainy on this May day, but a tent from The Party Place allowed Jamie and Michael to have their ceremony on the classic ceremony lawn and still have the barn open and ready for reception. The barn (which is more backyard-feeling than rustic) is perfect for keeping guest dry and cozy with the addition of heaters. Some couples opt to have both ceremony and reception in the barn on a rainy day, but we helped coordinate a tent on the lawn to avoid a clunky flipping of the space and ensure that Jamie and Michael's guests were dry and comfortable the whole day.
