Today I wanted to share with you some new technology that has come along to help couples overcome one of the more annoying parts of having an outdoor reception – noise ordinances.
As I am sure you have discovered, most outdoor wedding venues (including most private residences) require that the noise be turned down (or off) once the clock strikes 10:00pm. The reason for this party pooper of a rule is because the venue (or your parent’s) have to obey the county’s noise ordinance. While it’s totally understandable that everyone else in the neighborhood wants to sleep, we understand that you and your guests want to continue partying! Well thankfully, Stumptown DJs has a solution to keep everyone happy. Let me introduce you to Silent Disco.
Silent Disco is technology that re-routes the sound from your DJ’s system. Instead of playing the music through their speakers, they can funnel it to light-weight, super comfortable head phones. Each set of head phones is able to control their own volume, so you can adjust the volume depending on what is comfortable to your ear drums (and how much you like the song). Also, the DJ can make announcements through the head phones as well. So while the neighbors are sound asleep you, and your guests can be dancing until the sun comes up.
In talking with Matt, (owner of Stumptown DJs) Silent Disco was first developed to use on college campuses and at clubs. The head phones allowed for a DJ battle because listeners could change stations to hear songs the other DJs were playing. I really believe these are going to add a super fun element to wedding receptions, and I am excited for you to check them out. Here is a bit more information on Stumptown’s Silent Disco:
How much? You can add the Silent Disco upgrade to your DJ package for only $350 (for 50 pairs of headphones)
How many? Stumptown currently has 120 pairs. Enough for basically 2 weddings with a few to spare due to damage, etc. Remember, this would only be for folks who are there partying with you to the bitter end, so you don’t need one for your entire guest list.
How far away from the DJ station does the sound carry through the headphone? Well, the sound is carried through radio frequency, which apparently is stronger than say cell phone frequency. They are guaranteed to travel 300ft, but our unscientific tests has proved, the sound carries much further than that.
Any additional benefits? In addition to lengthening the amount of time folks have to dance, Stumptown has noticed that the headphones allow the dancing to take place throughout the venue, not just on the dance floor. They have seen folks standing in line at the bar start tapping their toes when the right song comes on. Secondly, they feel the headphones allow for folks to more easily transition from dancing to comfortable conversation because they can just drop the headphones when they want to chat. They don’t have to compete against the sound of the speakers.
As of now it sounds like Stumptown DJs is the only company in Portland with this add on option. As you can imagine, they are getting a lot of requests for the upgrade so if you are interested in having Silent Disco at your wedding, be sure to reach out to them ASAP.
